Greener future for automotive industry | News | gasworld

A-Gas has announced the UK launch of Honeywell?s new Low GWP refrigerant Solstice?yf into the automotive aftermarket. Solstice?yf has been designed as a low GWP solution for the changing requirements in legislation, facing the automotive industry.

The European directive 2006/40/EC, which went into effect in 2011, requires that all new car platforms for sale in Europe use a refrigerant in its air conditioning system with a GWP below 150.

From January 1st 2017, all new cars within the European Union will need to meet this requirement. The phase-out of high GWP refrigerants will affect the entire automotive industry, from manufacturing to automotive servicing and repair.

Solstice?yf brings a low environmental impact solution to the market and has a GWP of 4 which is 99.7% lower than R134a.

With cooling capacity equivalent to HFC-134a, a Solstice?yf offers comparable performance in all climates whilst reducing the carbon footprint. The operating characteristics of Solstice?yf are similar to R134a, which repair technicians are already familiar with.

Solstice?yf has low flammability, low toxicity and is noncorrosive and is available through A-Gas distributors.
