You'd think they would show more respect for a place which gives them so much material.
But no, Jon Stewart and the Daily Show have been piling on the Sunshine State in recent days, highlighting the Broward Republican Executive Committee's decision to reject membership by Nezar Hamze -- a registered Republican who is also a Muslim.
Hamze is also director of the South Florida chapter of the Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR), a civil rights advocacy group which has drawn particular criticism from conservative, who accuse it of connection to terrorist groups.
Last fall, Hamze tried to join the committee and establish a Muslim Republican Club, only to find himself publicly opposed by the leader of a group called Americans Against Hate -- an irony sure to attract The Daily Show.
The story aired one day after correspondent Wyatt Cenac said Tampa was a "sh--hole"?in a segment poking fun at GOP candidates implying god's hand in their success. And let's not forget another correspondent, Aasif Mandvi, running through Tallahassee asking elected officials to give up urine for drug tests.
Lighten up, guys. For fans of absurd politics and bizarre crimes, we're a one-stop shop; no need to bite the hand that feeds you softballs.
